Guayaba #theauxputmeon
What does Latine, Latinx, Hispanic, hispeace heritage month stand for? A month originally dedicated by the colonial state to acknowledge the cultural and fiscal contributions of its Latin populace, this month has been redefined and is constantly redefining the cultural impact and stance of Latine Americans.
For this month, we celebrate independence from imperialist powers and uplift the beauty and strife of art in its most resilient form.
To bring this month to a close we are highlighting Guayaba, a rapper, singer, and creative based in Washington that embodies the spirit of rebellion and class resilience. Guayaba truly gives no fucks.
A style so spooky and a sound sinister with every syllable spat, Guayaba taps into her Cuban roots to bring forth raps that agitate the norm while cursing agents of white supremacy.
Guayaba finds solace and builds community through her music, bringing important topics to the forefront such as fatphobia, anti-Blackness in the Latine community, and the consequences of appropriation.
